The 12 papers in this collection are from a June 2015 colloquium in Vienna under the auspices of the Court of Conciliation and Arbitration within the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). They cover conciliation as a method of international dispute settlement, dispute settlement within the OSCE, specialized conciliation procedures, and the Jan Mayen case (Iceland/Norway) as an example of successful conciliation. Among the topics are expectations attached to conciliation reconsidered, an East European perspective on conciliation within the framework of dispute settlement procedures, the essence and role of conciliation in the peaceful settlement of international disputes, UNESCO mediation and conciliation procedure for promoting the return and restitution of cultural property, and conciliation under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
