This updated edition of ADHD Coaching: A Guide for Mental Health Professionals describes the foundational principles as well as step-by-step guidance for teaching adults, college students, and adolescents how to survive and thrive with ADHD.

Coaching specifically targets the core impairments of ADHD, such as planning, time management, goal setting, organization, and problem solving, as well as academic, vocational, emotional, and interpersonal life difficulties. Chapters offer concrete advice for gathering information, conducting the initial intake, establishing goals and objectives, and working through all stages of coaching, along with helpful forms and a wide range of additional resources. The authors also discuss the business side of coaching, and how to develop one’s practice.

Richly detailed case studies illustrate how to help clients who present with a variety of ADHD symptoms. Each case study highlights different aspects of the coaching process and includes a description and background history of the client, and selected session dialogue interwoven with discussion of the case material. The book is designed to help facilitate skill building and work with clients to improve outcomes.

Frances Prevatt, PhD, was on the psychology faculty at Texas A&M University from 1984 to 1998, and was a faculty member in educational psychology and learning systems at Florida State University from 1998 to 2018. She is currently a professor emeritus and continues to provide supervision on ADHD cases at the Florida State University Assessment, Learning Evaluation, and Counseling (ALEC) Center. She has coauthored two other books: Casebook in Family Therapy (Brooks/Cole Wadsworth) and Succeeding With Adult ADHD: Daily Strategies to Help You Achieve Your Goals and Manage Your Life (APA LifeTools).

Abigail Levrini, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist, an ADHD specialist, and the owner and clinical director of Psych Ed Connections, with offices in Nocatee, Florida, and Alexandria, Virginia. She earned her doctorate in counseling and school psychology at Florida State University in 2008, where she was part of a team that spearheaded a now nationally recognized ADHD coaching intervention. Dr. Levrini has published numerous scientific articles on ADHD and presents her coaching model in professional settings throughout the country.
