Rene Riera, Jr. Born in Havana, Cuba, was one of the most popular jockeys in New England, during a riding career that began in 1968, under contract to that area’s perennial leading trainer until 1971. From 1974-1977 was stable rider of the famed Spendthrift Farm. After retiring from riding in 1984, embarked in a career as a racing official, holding numerous important posts, including Racing Secretary and Director of Racing. Presently, he is a Racing Steward, and lives in Miami, Florida
