Most of the chapters of this volume are revisions of articles Strentz wrote while serving at the Federal Bureau of Investigation Academy that were published in various law-enforcement journals. Others are written versions of lectures he has delivered since he retired. He offers advice to crisis negotiators and encouragement to police commanders to take the time necessary to ensure the preservation of human life.
