Praying without ceasing is a Bible command that is not only directed to monks but for all Christians from all walks of life. The early church had special techniques that helped them pray without ceasing which was later called the Arrow Prayer because it is short and intense prayer and it goes like an arrow to the heart of God.
The Arrow Prayer is the parent tradition out of which the Jesus prayer is part of. The Arrow prayer is not limited to prayers that invoke the name of Jesus but it includes verses from the bible, particularly the psalms.
This book traces the use of this prayer from the lives of saints and throughout church history, including liturgical prayers, while recommending practical approaches for Christians today to be able to fulfil this bible commandment
