Biomedical engineers Togawa, P. �ke �berg (both Link繹ping U., Sweden), and Toshiyo Tamura (Chiba U.) explain how the instruments that measure physiological data work. The text could serve as a platform for a university course, or as a tutorial and reference at a company that makes such devices. After setting out the fundamental concepts, they cover measuring pressure; flow; motion and force; temperature, heat flow, and evaporation; bioelectric and biomagnetic levels; and chemicals. The first edition (no date cited) was titled Biomedical Transducers and Instruments of Biomedical Sensors and Instruments. Many of the instruments have been radically reduced in size, they say, but the principles of operation, which is their focus, have changed little if at all.
