transition metal carbides and nitrides (mxenes) handbook: synthesis, processing, properties and applications

＂In materials science, MXenes are a class of two-dimensional inorganic compounds. These materials consist of a-few-atoms-thick layers of transition metal carbides, nitrides, or carbonitrides. First described in 2011, MXenes combine the metallic conductivity of transition metal carbides with a hydrophilic nature. The discovery of graphene initiated a wave of research in two-dimensional (2D) materials due to its excellent properties such as high mobility, high conductivity and high mechanical strength and long spin diffusion length for spintronics devices. MXene, as a new family of 2D materials, has attracted increasing attention and has been applied for various applications.＂--

Chuanfang Zhang is a full professor at Sichuan University, China. He is the Principal Investigator for the Multifunctional Inks for Printed Electronics Group and was a senior scientist with Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology, Zurich, Switzerland. He completed his PhD jointly at ECUST (China) and Drexel University (USA) in 2015.

Michael Naguib, PhD, is a Ken and Ruth Arnold Early Career Professor in Science and Engineering and an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Engineering Physics at Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. In 2014, he received his doctorate in Materials Science and Engineering at Drexel University, where he co-invented MXenes.
