Born February 1, 1923, Irving Ungerman has always been a fighter. Weighing in at a mere two-and-a-half-pounds, he survived his birth with an invincible spirit that has sustained him throughout his ninety-two years. Ungerman provides a ringside seat to his remarkable journey from his humble beginnings in Kensington Market to scrappy pugilist in West Toronto, to being a soldier in the RCAF during the Second World War. His drive to succeed helped him build his family’s poultry business, all the while becoming one of Canada’s most successful boxing promoters and a pioneer in introducing closed circuit television to the country. Member of the Order of Ontario, the Order of St. Jerusalem, philanthropist and patron of the arts, Ungerman’s book is a most inspiring and fascinating read.
