* Preface
The book is to introduce to you the technique of inner practice at the beginning stage or say at the first level for practicing. In spite that the vocabulary of Inner Practice is known by more and more people today, but most people are poor to practice in the method and poor to understand it, and also have not heard of the methodological knowledge on the mechanism and the law at the level of the academic discipline. In modern Chinese, the official Chinese to name the form of the inner practice is Qigong (Ch’i-gung). But, in accordance with the view of the West science, Qigong or Yoga the form of the inner practice is the matte with the religious idea or covered a mystery veil. The real situation is the inner practicing method in a long history river had not developed to become the matter at the level of the technology.
The technique of inner practice in the book is a part of intensive training method of Wisdom Energy Qigong in which is with the three practicing stages of beginning, medium and advanced. One of the features of Wisdom Energy Qigong is an obviously effective inner practicing system founded on the base of classical Qigong that with near fifty hundred years history. Other feature is the method practicing is under the guidance of the methodological theory of Wisdom Energy Science (WES). Because WES is to research the phenomena of the inner practice and is an academic discipline, it was given a name of Qigong Science in 1980’ s in China. The main task of Qigong Science is to discover the essence, the mechanism, the laws of the inner practice and the human body life activity in the view of Qigong Science, and study the true relationship between the inner practice and the human body life activity.
Because the method of Wisdom Energy Qigong was founded on the classical Qigong method as the basis and the classical Qigong originated in ancient China, for the reason, I spent much of the space to tell you the common knowledge on the classical Qigong and the general situation of Qigong in development in ancient China. The first chapter of the book is this for. So, this book is not just for the people who interested in the method practicing of Qigong; to the West people if has the idea to get an overview of Qigong in ancient and in modern, to read the book is beneficial to. In reading of the second chapter, you will get an overlook of Wisdom Energy Qigong, is the common knowledge for the specific method practicing.
China is thought that has more than fifty hundred years history, the history of Qigong also has the forty-eight hundred years at least. In brief, the Qigong practice in ancient was the mainly practicing activity in exploring the secret of Nature, the secret of human body life activity, in studying the relation of Nature and human being, in the invention of the technique, in running of the society state and in creating the literature and the arts success. After the great revolution at 1911, China was with a great transformation that the monarchy rule system within more than twenty hundred years was ended. The political, economic system the government made and the social situation got a great change after the revolution, Chinese attempted to learn everything from West world, China thereby started up to go into the modern times. It is on the background, the method of Qigong that the practical forms in Chinese culture had to change to suit the new mold of new China. Thus, during 1911 to the year before 1979, Qigong method got a few times of incomprehensive reform.
It was from the year of 1979’s, a new matter appeared at the mainland China, that the Mass Qigong Tide and soon developed a movement of Qigong reformation and popularization. Till to the end of 1999, at least, a hundred million Chinese were benefited in it. On the matter of Qigong reformation, the method of classical Qigong was got a comprehensive reform for every moderns practice it and under the guidance of the Qigong Science theory. On the Qigong popularization, the mass Qigong tide was the mainstream in the Qigong field at the time. Back to see the piece of the history, the efficiency of the hot tide was at the three aspects at least: a. Led the common people to go into the Qigong practice for self-healing as a natural therapy that without any of side effect as taking the drags and it could save the huge sums of the medical expenses for the government. b. The matter of Qigong in popular had the effect to improve the moral state of the people, improved the state of the people’s morality. c. Made a base to build a new academic discipline that the Qigong Science; because a scientific discipline must be on the basis that the society has the demand of the discipline appearance; the basis of Qigong Science build that is on the Qigong popularization in which the Qigong activity is a part on in daily for commoners. It is only in state of the inner practice in popularization and the practice with the guidance of Qigong Science theory, humans is possible to gain the more freedom when living in Nature. The original thought of the Qigong reformation and popularization was in this.
In the great movement, so many Qigong methods were in reformation and in popular with the modern futures. The mass Qigong is a new kind of Qigong had not appeared in the history, it with the better efficiency of the mental and physical state transformation, Qi-healing is the side product of the Qigong practice. The method of Wisdom Energy Qigong is the first appeared one in the mass Qigong tide. The whole of the methods of Wisdom Energy Qigong is a system with the newly techniques of Qigong reformed from the typical methods of classical Qigong, the method practicing is under the guidance of the methodological knowledge of WES.
In the intensive method of Wisdom Energy Qigong, there are three kinds of outer form of the body for practicing Qi. Among them, the Standard Moving Method with the six sets of specific practicing methods as the six practicing stages is the essential one of the intensive training of Qigong. The first and the second sets of the standard moving method are at the beginning stage with the feature of mass Qigong, they were attracted a few million people for self-healing and fitness during 1979 to 1999 in mainland China.
A general question is: Qigong had not got the obvious reform and in popular in the ancient with so many years, would be the essences of Qigong removed as Qigong in reformation and popularization? The concern is unnecessary. Because, the essences of Qigong are the effect of healing and improve the health state, the main purpose of Qigong reform is to get the better efficacy of the purpose for the commoners. Standing at the viewpoint, Qigong reformed has to maintain the advantages of Qigong and remove the factories as the shortage that no longer adapted to the situation today. For example, a facts are, Qigong was developed in born in a small agrarian society in which the life of the people was in the self-sufficient state with alone family of themselves; and most ancients were the illiteracy; the whole world was at the times that with poor transportation and communication. As a kind of traditionally cultural phenomenon, the classical Qigong just developed under such a condition and was put the marks of the ancient political, economic and the scientific state; the Qigong practice in ancient was in the religious ideas, the phenomena of Qigong were explained in the view of the Natural Philosophy. Only these two points is enough to hinder the inner practice to become a member of the scientific family.
Or ask: What is the purpose of WES established? It is I said, however the classical or modern style Qigong, both of them had not settled off the general questions on Qigong, e g., what is the original nature of Qigong, what is the real purpose of Qigong practicing, what is the mechanism of the eye-catching effect of Qigong at the aspects of mental and physical state improvement, what the laws of Qi practicing, what the key element of practicing Qi, etc. It was those so important questions had not been got any of reasonable answer with the knowledge at the level of science, the situation caused a serious problem that most people do not understand the inner practice, and thus, most people will not go to learn and practice it.
Humanity has the two kinds of practicing method or activities, one is inner practicing method or activity; other is the outer practicing method or activity. The former has not been as the necessary one in the production activity and daily life so far, the latter one is the main activity to complete the daily jobs. It is known, the practicing method is the necessary element in the matter of human getting the success. The perfect practicing activity undoubtedly causes a perfect state in the world exploring. Then, a non-perfect practicing activity of cause will not bring a perfect success for man. The fact is, humanity still has not been with the two kinds of practicing activity to explore Nature, the state of human understanding Nature is in unperfected therefore. So, the state of humanity today is as like as a person without the normal state, in spite of man has got a great success that had not been appeared in history. The inner practice once in popularization and become one of the activities in the scientific research, and get the ability developed from the inner practice, once applies the ability into the producing activities, we can expect that the state of would will certainly get a significant change without so many years.
Qigong as one of the forms of inner practice, then, in the river of the history, the method of Qigong was taken by the Chinese religious believers as the meaning of closing to the gods for the Qigong method has the efficiency of the paranormal ability development. As the person who with the paranormal ability, sometimes would appear some of the miracles speech in the religious activity and the miracles were believed the gifts from the gods by the religious believers. The West science develops in the surrounding of the outer practice as the mainstream practice. Thereby, West science is lack of the theory to understand the religious phenomena.
It makes a strange phenomenon that quite most of the scientists in West are the members of religious group, but as a scientist, who cannot explain the religious phenomena with the existing theory. If the scientists were in the inner practice under the guidance of the methodological theory, e g., to practice the method of Wisdom Energy Qigong method in the guidance of WES theory, the situation would be got a change; as least, the scientists can be able to understand the nature of the religion and also understand Qigong or Yoga.
What is the state in the inner practice? In it, mind is in the state of focusing inward, the state forms a condition that causes one’s mind to unify the human body life energy which was called “Qi” in traditional China. The state of mind focusing inward is seldom to appear in daily, the most peoples do not have the experience of the state therefor. In the inner practicing state, the practitioner is possible to regulate the Qi in the body (the inner Qi) to unify the Qi in Nature (Natural Qi) with his/her bio Qi-field by the movement of mind. It is the effective way to transform the mental and physical state from the worst to the better, from the inside to outside of the body. The efficacy is the state from the common or lower than the common to the state that higher than the common one.
While the Qigong method practicing effects to the human body and have a qualitative transformation from the worse than the common state to the common, it is the Qi-healing. As the practicing effects to the body from the common state to state higher than the common, it is the main efficiency of the inner practice, in the speech of tradition Chinese, that the Qigong Fitness. Standing at the view, the Qi-healing just is the side effect of Qigong practicing.
In the outer practicing method or activity, mind is in state of focusing outward to an object out of the own body, and in the way to collect the massage of the object; then with the logical thinking to abstract the concept of the matters and understand it. It is the common method in the Natural phenomena exploring of man today. In the history, the accumulation of the product material, the product power increasing, and the quality of human life improvement are depended on the kind of practice. In the outer practicing activity, humans established the modern science and made our world to get a great change within three hundred years.
But, the outer practice is with the serious problems that impossible settled off by the people just with the kind of practicing. The problems cause the shortage that the observer is very difficult to grasp the original nature or the whole feature of the matter without the logical argument. And in making a matter having a qualitative change in the outer practicing method, it has to consume mush of power or energy. If Science could understand the inner practice, if the two kinds of the activity are in combination to explore Nature, humanity will get a much greater success than we having today.
Or ask: Why the founder did not directly name of the discipline the Qigong Science but plus the words of Wisdom Energy? Briefly, in the Qigong field, there are the numberless kind of methods and sects, each of them has the advantaged and shortages. A person or a team who want to found an academic discipline of Qigong, they must practice all the methods in present and get the necessary experience from the methods. It is impossible completed by a few persons within years.
The simple situation of WES: The founder was Min Pang, a certificated doctor of bio medicine and Chinese classical therapy of mainland China, vice-professor of Chinese martial arts, senior scholar of Qigong from the early years of 1980 in China. Chulai Tao, the researcher of Chinese Academy of Sciences and scientist of space technology in China, also a senior scholar of Wisdom Energy Qigong. Wisdom Energy Qigong was the pro-matter of WES that focused the Qigong popularization from 1979 to 1987, and focus to the Qigong education from 1987; from 1991, the Training Center of Wisdom Energy Qigong China established. From 1992, the theory of WES in publication, the college and the institution of WES started to work, the matter of Wisdom Energy Qigong from 1992 was as the basic training system to the program student of WES discipline.
After June 1999, all the licensed Qigong organizations in China were closed with the executive will of the Chinese government. The Training Center of Wisdom Energy Qigong China was also. So, the studying paradigm of WES is in sleeping today, in spite of the fact that with the success has not appeared in the history. Then, as a new kind of science, the paradigm of Qigong Science will not be in sleeping forever, and any of the scientific theory once appears, it will not be thrown off by man. The theory of WES can settle off so many problems that both of Science and the traditional Qigong or Yoga cannot; just standing at this point, WES theory is a matter with its strong vitality.
All the Qigong methods can be divided into the three practicing forms that standard moving method, the Irregular Moving Method and the Stable Method. The essence of the three is one that makes the practitioner’s mental and physical state from the common level to the level higher than commoners having. Wisdom Energy Qigong holds the three kinds of practicing forms. Among them, the standard moving method is the effective and easiest one for understanding and practicing. The standard moving method is the focused one in Wisdom Energy Qigong, therefor.
The methods in the third to sixth chapters of the book are the typically standard moving method at the beginning stage. Or ask: What is the meaning of Wisdom Energy? It is produced by the movement of spirit. The wisdom energy has the two kinds of common wisdom energy and the paranormal wisdom energy. The former is everybody has, the latter is seldom to appear at the commoners. But both are the necessary matter of man. The inner practice is the effective method to develop the paranormal wisdom energy.
What is the different point of the standard moving method and irregular moving method? In short, in the former, the body forms are designed. In the latter, the postures is in random appearance in the intensive training, and without the ruler to evaluate the postures appearing in the practicing is right or not, because the postures being controlled directly with the internal Qi in movement, mind in the method just controls the internal Qi but not controls the motion of the physical body. The state is seldom to appear actively in daily
In the standard moving method, mind directly focuses to the movement of the physical body and in the way to cause the internal Qi in activation because the movement of the physical body led with the movement of inner Qi, the movement of the internal Qi is led by the movement of mind. For everybody having the ability of mind controlling and leading the movement of the physical body, the job in daily of man completed is in the same, the practitioner but is without realizing it. The standard moving method for in this reason is the easiest one in learning, practicing and teaching. Because in the body movement, the internal Qi always is easy to move, the moving method is the effective one of Qigong thereby. Because as the internal Qi in the moving state, the body would appear the symptom of the side effect of the inner Qi motion, the irregular moving method could not be as the mess Qigong method; and in the standard moving method, the movement of the internal Qi is from the movement of the physical body, the body moving is controlled by mind, the method therefor is the safety one.
Or ask: In the sports, it is also the mind to lead the physical body to move; is it the physical exercises having the similar mechanisms or the similar effectiveness as the standard moving method? And the standard moving method of Qigong is it the other kind of the physical exercise? The right answer in short that both of standard moving method and physical exercise is in a mechanism that mind directly focuses to the movement of the physical body. But, in the inner practice, mind is in the focusing inward state for combining the movement of the body to move the internal Qi or the Qi exchange, or feel the moving state of the inner Qi. But, in the physical exercise, mind just focuses to the motion of the physical body to complete the body demonstration. At the aspect of the energy supplied, the sports men are entirely depended on the adequate nutrition and the adequate rest. To the Qigong people, the way to supplement for consumed energy is relied to the two ways, one is to absorb the intangible matter (Qi) in the Qigong practicing, the other way is as same as the commoners to absorb the tangible matter, e g., the regular food is one kind of, and with the regular rest.
Every of the topic above are the hot topics in Qigong field today, they have the detailed discussion in the text of the book.
* Explanatory Note
1. For a reason that as the method of Wisdom Energy Qigong in appearing, the theory of WES was not in public, the specific training methods at the time always called the “method” (Kung-fa/功法) as same as in the classical Qigong field. In the book, I always use the word of Method but not the word of Technique except for some of the newly Qigong method created on the knowledge of WES and appeared in the movement of Qigong reformation and popularization, in spite of the fact, almost every practicing method in Wisdom Energy Qigong is with the explanation and under the guidance of the knowledge of WES that the pre-matter of Qigong Science. Because in the view of modern science, as a practicing method is in the guidance with the scientific knowledge, the method is one of the numbers of the technology, the specific method therefor is regarded as the specific technique.
2. Even though, the Qigong methods in the book were given the detailed explanation and the illustrations, the state of the inner practice method is not easy to be understood with the words and pictures, because the form of inner practice, the body demonstration just is the outer form in the inner practice. The best way to understand the concept of the method is repeatedly to read the notes during learning and practicing the method if without the face to face instruction. The fact is the state of single-minded and mind focusing inward is impossible to descript with speech clearly, because the inner practice has still not as important as the outer practice in daily life, no more people put heart into the practice from ancient to today, the existing vocabulary is not enough to express the state of the practice. Other point is, as a Qigong practitioner, you have to understand that the body forms in the intensive training are the necessary element, but the most important element is the state of mind.
3. The common sense of Qi-point and the Qi-meridian are the necessary one to the Qigong practitioner, but the names of them are difficult to translate into English and also are not easy caught with Roman alphabet, the current doing is to make them with the numbers in serial of each Qi-meridian in English book. It causes the other problem that the reader cannot understand the real meaning of the Qi-point. Actually, almost every of the Qi-point’s name in Chinese is with its meaning for understand.
4. The other matter on the description of Qigong state was we could not find the exact vocabulary in English in the translation word by word to express the accurate meaning of the terminologies of Qigong or Qigong Science in Chinese, because in West, there is not the practicing activity similar as Qigong in the history. Facing the fact, a quite more terms in the book were created. In my idea, the best way in the translation of the Qigong terms were to avoid use of the Roman alphabet as can as possible; even though, the way is easier to.
5. The method in the book exactly is at the beginning stage of Wisdom Energy Qigong practicing even though, to some of person, the practicing probably would be not easy to, because the general state of Qigong is at a very lower level today. But I think, there is a part people would like it. An actual matter is, the explanation on the specific method practicing in the book is in so detailed that there have not any of book on the same method of Qigong as the book as; the explanation is from the three aspects that the text book of WES, the experience from the Qigong practice of the fellows and of mine.
6. By the way, this is my forth academic works on Qigong. The three before this was in Chinese. The next one in English will be the fundamental theory of WES. A matter that I am very regrettable to the readers whose mother tongue is English that English is the second language of mind, the speech in the book is not in the idiomatic English. As the author of the book I hope you could understand the content in the book with my speech and thought the practicing to get the efficiency of the inner practice that the qualitative transformation of the mental and the physical state. And I think the next book on the translation will be certainly better than this one.
* Appreciation
During the book making, I got the great helps from one of the students of mine, Mark Chen, graduated from New York University and St John’s University in New York, the Master of Education. As an Taiwanese,English is his first language. And during his growth in New York, he learnt Chinese from his elders. He also is a practitioner of Wisdom Energy Qigong and with ten years more experience of Chinese martial arts instruction in New York. We discussed the questions on the translation of the Qigong vocabulary often during I wrote the book. If had not got the help of Mr. Chen, I would not have completed the book in possibility as well as today at the aspect of translating the terminology of Qigong and Qigong Science.
I must gratitude David Lee, is an entrepreneur in New York. It was his supporting to make the condition to me having the enough time as a full-time writer during the books writing. In a word, without his help, I would not have published the book as planned.

It was he told me that according to a principle of fitness in Taoism, a martial arts person if after 25 age who had to shift his major practice to the soft martial arts and with Qigong practicing. I listened to him, practiced the Wu style Tai-ch’i Fist, the Pa-kua Palm, the Shin-i and Wutang Kung-fu. From 1979, I practice the classical style Qigong and also was as the instructor of hard style martial arts. I met the practitioners of Wisdom Energy Qigong in 1990, and two years after, I gave up all the martial arts and Qigong methods I had and put my heart into the practice of Wisdom Energy Qigong. Then, I rolled the corresponded academic class of WES in 1993 for I been older than the rolled age of full-time students of WES program at the time. From 1996, I was as an instructor of Wisdom Energy Qigong. It from the October 2004, I started up to write the academic works on Wisdom Energy Qigong and the Taoism Kung-fu that Mr. King passed down me. From March 2005, I taught the method of Wisdom Energy Qigong in New York. From 2012 to 2015, published the three books in Chinese. This book is the first one in English on the technique of Wisdom Energy Qigong with the methodological knowledge of WES.
