Art Center, affiliated to the Ministry of Culture, mainly serves seven regions in southern Taiwan. A key mission of the Art Center is “community empowerment.” “Art for Social Change” commenced in 2020, the preliminary case studies mainly covered the issues, approaches, influences, and potential of individual cases. Hence, it is our priority to gather information (the basic data of prominent cases, creators, and intermediate organizations) and then analyze the cases (the context of community-related issues, art forms, the approaches of artists, and how communities participate in the cases and their influences). The results of the research were presented to the public in a forum. Artists and professionals of community empowerment were invited to give feedback and suggestions for improvement prior to publication. During the forum, experts held a round-table discussion to exchange ideas about how to effectively manage resources and sustain the development when introducing art into communities. Open conversations from the discussion have also been edited for inclusion in the book.
作者簡介:
The project “Art for Social Change”, directed by Professor Wu Ma-Li from the Graduate Institute of Transdisciplinary Art, National Kaohsiung Normal University, and Associate Professor Hsu Yuan-Ta from Tainan National University of the Art, wrote the monograph for this book. Eight researchers, including Wang Ting-Chi, Hsu Szu-Chieh , Chen Sih-Yu, Mu Lu-Lang, Chang Kai-Ting , Yang Chia-Hsuan , Lin Pei-Ying and Liu Yi-Zih, have respectively conducted research into the current condition of art in the community in seven cities and counties, namely Kinmen County, Penghu County, Chiayi City, Chiayi County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City and Pingtung County. Collectively, their work has formed the foundations for “Art for Social Change,” which will be developed subsequently by The National Tainan Living Art Center in these cities and counties.
