This book examines the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in reducing psychological distress among individuals living with hypertension. Psychological distress, often exacerbated by chronic illnesses, significantly affects emotional well-being, coping mechanisms, and overall quality of life. The study, conducted at the Obafemi Awolowo University Health Centre, investigates the relationships between perceived stress, family functioning, coping styles, and psychological distress, offering a comprehensive analysis of intervention strategies. Through a mixed-method research approach, the study assesses the impact of CBT on psychological distress reduction, utilizing validated psychological scales such as the Perceived Stress Scale, Symptoms Checklist, and Family Functioning Scale. The findings highlight that structured CBT interventions significantly improve emotional regulation, resilience, and adaptive coping in hypertensive patients. Furthermore, the book explores the mediating roles of socio-demographic factors, emphasizing gender, age, and marital status as key determinants of psychological distress levels.
