Ibrahim came to the U.S., from Nigeria, on August 29, 2000 to pursue higher learning. He perceived America as a place where he could seek greener pastures and acquire opportunities that his home country could not have offered him at the time. His ideas of the American high-life are abruptly contrasted with the harsh realities that he encountered on a daily basis. Everyday became a bitter struggle as he had to chillingly accept the realization of instant independence, and the culture shock being away from the surroundings of his familiar homeland and family.
