The Mediterranean Diet is a diet that was inspired by the healthy eating habits of Mediterranean people in the 1960s. The main components of this diet are a high proportion of olive oil, legumes, unrefined cereals, fruits, and vegetables, a moderate to high consumption of fish, a moderate consumption of dairy products (mostly as cheese and yogurt), a moderate wine consumption, and a low consumption of non-fish meat products.
