Cracking Black & Blue: A Call of Service From the outside looking in Ava Singleton is the triple threat that all young women aspire to be. With a Master's degree that is so hot off the press the ink has yet to dry, she is arguably the epitome of a strong, educated, woman. Through experience, Ava learns that her troubled past is also an integral part of what will prepare her in the future workforce. Upon accepting a conditional offer to join the police academy, Ava is in for a rude awakening. She quickly learns that the streets of Minor Hills are not for the faint-hearted. Alongside her vow to protect, serve, and uphold the law, Ava must routinely prove her abilities as she navigates her career in a male dominated profession. All the while, the community is in a state of unrest, surrounding the recent killings of unarmed black men by the hands of the police. How will Ava adapt to a changing society? Where will Ava's loyalty lie: with her fellow officers or the community that raised her? Will faith, family, and the unexpected blessing of meeting her Boaz be enough to sustain Ava as she continues policing in a society that lacks obedience to God?

Aliza T. Speaks was born an ＂80s baby＂ from the country suburbs of North Carolina. After the loss of her father at an early age her mother encouraged her to read books. Already equipped with a vivid imagination, reading provided a myriad of endless dreams and a positive outlet. As a little girl she dreamed of becoming a storyteller, sharing her truth and perspective with others. After obtaining a Master’s Degree in Biology Aliza developed a desire to serve her community. She stepped out on faith and embarked on a successful career in law enforcement. Aliza continues to break barriers with a God given passion for policing, racism, religion, love, and education. Cracking Black & Blue is the manifestation of a dream come true.
