The Secret Life of Gabriele D’Annunzio was the first major biography of d’Annunzio, published in the year of his death 1938 and written by his friend and personal assistant of forty years, Tommaso Antongini.

Tommaso Antongini (1877-1967) met Gabriele d’Annunzio in Florence in 1897 and became his lifelong friend. He worked as d’Annunzio’s personal assistant, researcher and factotum. During the Carnaro Regency in Fiume, d’Annunzio made him an official delegate in Paris.
