The project to build the deepwater port of Banana in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is pitted against the Road-Rail Bridge project linking Kinshasa (DRC) and Brazzaville (Republic of Congo). Although both projects have political, economic, environmental and social impacts, the analysis developed in this book supports the priority of the Banana port. It highlights its inclusive nature, promoting the national sovereignty of the DRC and benefiting not only the DRC as a whole, but also Central Africa. The construction of the Banana deepwater port would accelerate national integration, thus preserving the sovereignty and economic independence of the Democratic Republic of Congo. By comparison, a road-rail bridge between Kinshasa and Brazzaville would further promote regional integration in the DRC. This book also highlights the competitiveness of the port of Banana in relation to that of Pointe-Noire.
