Two senses of moral dilemmas are explored here by scholars of philosophy, psychology, and education. One sense involves conflicts in real and hypothetical life that require moral judgment. The second is how people grappling with ethics and morals must increasingly widen their field of vision to encompass developments from the domains of philosophy and psychology, and diversity in culture, gender, age, and other dimensions. Nine essays consider such topics as Abraham, Socrates, and Heinz: where are the women; resolving moral conflicts within the just community; the moral adequacy of Kohlberg's moral development theory; and the development of religious judgment. The volume grew out of an interdisciplinary colloquium series on moral judgment held at Loyola University in Chicago, 1983-85. The 1985 edition, published by Precedent Publishing, was titled Moral Dilemmas. Annotation 穢2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
