P.I. Chronicles - is a vivid and candid memoir about the life of a Marine stationed in the Philippines. After graduating from boot camp training (Parris Island, SC) and Infantry School (Camp Pendleton, Ca.), Corey Johnson was sent to Subic Bay, Philippines (P.I.). He was excited and ready to serve his country as a US Marine. While stationed for several months at B Company Marine Barracks near Alongapo City, Philippines, this young Marine felt outside of his element. Standing foreign posts and doing jungle patrols in a third world country was a major adjustment for him. Out in town, Corey experienced things that he had never experienced before. Some good. Some not so good. (you be the judge) At some point, he began to feel trapped. He wanted to wake up from this nightmare and go back home to Baltimore, Maryland. While trying to figure things out, he met a beautiful young Filipina named Lana who stole his heart and transformed this nightmare into a fantasy. They were enjoying life together when without warning, everything came to a screeching halt. Lana was not the faithful and honest girlfriend who he thought she was. But how could HE get mad at HER. Was she betraying him? Or was she taking advantage of an opportunity that Corey was not offering her. How did he not see this coming? How was Lana able to fool Corey? Was it because he was too busy chasing other women? Was it because he was getting drunk and hanging out with the fellas? Crying on a pillow was not the way to solve his problems. Corey decided to fight against the racism and unfair treatment. While doing this, he also created an unbreakable bond with his Marine Brothers that is still solid to this day.
