Have you ever heard of G6PD deficiency? How about rickets, congenital pustular melanosis, umbilical hernia, or sickle cell trait? While we all belong to the human race, there are conditions, including those listed above, that occur more frequently in children of African-American ethnicity. Most of the time these are just normal variations, but some could cause problems if you as a parent are not aware of them Please join me as I journey through the first year of life for an African-American child. I will highlight what you need to know in order to be an advocate and champion of your child's health. Together, we will give him or her the best possible foundation for healthy living in the years to come.
