As a child, her parents owned a home in Barnegat Light. Teresa began her career in social work as a VISTA volunteer in Richmond, Virginia. She resides on a minifarm in Mechanicsville, Virginia with her husband and son. Other members of her family are horses, cats, birds and a dog. Partial proceeds from book sales will be donated to animal rescue.
