Floyd K. Takeuchi is a writer-photographer with more than 33 years of experience in the Asia-Pacific region. He specializes in Hawaii and the Pacific Islands, sharing stories about people and their challenges and successes in using traditional cultures to thrive in the contemporary world. Floyd has traveled extensively in Oceania, and has worked in the region as well as in Japan. He has reported from areas as diverse as Bikini Atoll, Pohnpei, Saipan, Palau, Samoa and Fiji. In addition to working at news organizations in Japan and Hawaii, Floyd has been a reporter and editor in Guam and Fiji. He was also publisher of the largest-circulating news magazine covering Oceania. An American born and raised in the Marshall Islands, Floyd has devoted most of his adult life to reporting from the far corners of the Pacific. That work continues with his current concentration on books, based on his photography and writing, that detail the successes of Polynesians, Micronesians and Melanesians in melding their traditional values and practices in the contemporary world.
