Barry Blake, clean-cut, handsome and fresh out of high school (good lord; they were young, weren't they?) joins the Air Corps and gets assigned to pilot a B-17 Flying Fortress, crewed by an assortment of other clean-cut, handsome young men (plus one ethnic, played variously by an Italian and an Irishman). They end up in the Pacific bombing the bejeebers out of Japanese convoys and land emplacements, getting banged up and occasionally shot down in the process.
