Many women believe that the aches and pains associated with pregnancy-from backaches to carpal tunnel syndrome-just have to be tolerated. But that doesn't need to be the case Drs. Vicki and Erik Hemmett, two passionate and expert chiropractors, are here to help you enjoy a vibrant pregnancy with minimal discomfort.

The doctors outline nine basic prenatal orthopedic conditions: piriformis syndrome (hip and/or leg pain), bursitis (hip pain), sacroiliac syndrome, low back pain, foot pain, pubic pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and thoracic outlet syndrome (numbness and tingling in the hands), breech presentation, and preventing postnatal urinary incontinence.

With the informed consent of your obstetrician (who should be notified if you experience any of the above), learn how to perform simple daily prenatal stretches and exercises, as well as seek out additional therapies.

In addition to these different techniques, the Hemmetts have created a guide to basic prenatal nutrition requirements. You don't need to "eat for two," but you do need to make sure you and your baby get essential vitamins and nutrients.

Dr. Erik Hemmett graduated with honors from the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont. He then received a doctor of chiropractic degree from the National College of Chiropractic in Lombard, Illinois. He is a certified acupuncture and meridian therapy practitioner. He was the Vermont delegate for the American Chiropractic Association and the current president (and past treasurer) of the Vermont Chiropractic Association.

Dr. Vicki Hemmett graduated from Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, with honors. She went on to receive a doctor of chiropractic degree from the National College of Chiropractic. She is a certified acupuncture and meridian therapy practitioner and a certified pelvic floor rehab therapist. She was a guest faculty lecturer at the University of Vermont College of Medicine and the creator and developer of the Hemmett Pelvic Floor Release Technique. She is a member of the American Chiropractic Association and the Vermont Chiropractic Association.
