Francisco de Saavedra played a key role in the American victory over the British at the Battle of Yorktown in October 1781.
The French and Spanish united in delivering vital help to Washington’s army at Yorktown.
The French fleet defeated the British fleet that came to aid the British army. The French fleet brought also half the troops and artillery that were involved in the victory at Yorktown.
Saavedra provided the money in Havana without which the French could not sail. There was no money to finance the war in North America.
