Olivier Melnick excels in bringing us up to date on a changing world outlook towards Israel and the Jewish people that could dominate the world scene for decades to comes. Anti-Semitism that was a local concern to Europe in the 1930s and 1940s has now morphed into new strains with dangerous potential. Yet the greatest danger for peace-loving citizens today is the same as in that earlier time of tumult: our own unawareness of the danger and a naive unpreparedness for the consequences of unchecked anti-Semitism. To be sure, Olivier, who was born in Paris, France, points out that the climate in Europe today is quite different than in the mournful years following World War II. Multiple factors, including changing demographics and political dynamics, have led the way to new strains of anti-Semitism. In addition, the globalization of anti-Zionist sentiments, combined with radical worldviews that embrace hatred, has accelerated the importance of recognizing and negotiating peaceful solutions and putting preventative actions in place. Olivier Melnick especially targets mature Christian believers, calling them to the forefront to gain understanding, practice love, and study peace-making measures. He suggests actions that can be taken by individuals, communities, and by governments. However, as always, light breaks forth only as each one is individually willing to light a candle. According to the author, Education is the key. Given the book’s heavy content and ambitious goals, the outstanding momentum of the writer is welcome, as are his personal, historical, and theological insights. Other works on anti-Semitism have echoed the wounded cry of the devastated: "Never Again!" Olivier Melnick’s book provides a unique look forward to a hopeful future.
