Sisters Mary & Ruth, take summer jobs working for the Steamship, the C.W. Morse, in New York City. While there, they are caught up in the excitement and danger of espionage surrounding World War One! Read about some of the most infamous characters of the age - the REAL (original) Wolf of Wall Street, David Lamar, the Wickedest Man in the World (Aleister Crowley), and Bioterrorist Anton Dilger. Between danger and peril, the girls enjoy sampling a Reuben Sandwich and even get to meet their screen idol Theda Bara.

The author has based the two main characters on real people - his grandmother Mary, and her sister Ruth, who actually worked for the Steamship Company (owned by their Aunt Clem's husband, Charlie Morse). Mary Cowles, was unaccounted for during a four year period (during a time when most people - including her - wrote many letters). Nobody in the family knows where she was - or what she was doing during this four year absence.
