On New Years’ Eve of 2222, the artificial intelligence Proteus observes a nun flying out of an airlock on Earth Space City One. To help him make sense of the situation, he reconnects with his childhood friend, the reclusive Earth-bound, coffee-addicted, cyber-thief, Roger Foster.
