John W. Koshak got started in the elevator industry in 1980, building new elevators, which he did for 17 years. He then invented and patented a safety device that is still in use for hydraulic elevators, and was even incorporated into the safety code as a requirement. He currently works at the largest elevator company in North America, which develops and manufactures new elevators using innovative technology. Koshak serves as the Director of Code and Standards for North America. He is also active in the ASME and ISO committees working toward standardization of global elevator codes. In addition, he was an instructor for the International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) for nine years. He currently lives in Ramona, California, with his beautiful wife and four children.
