This volume theorizes the post-1989 images, as found in contemporary architecture, literature, and film, of four Central European cities: Berlin, Germany; Budapest, Hungary; Prague, the Czech Republic; and Warsaw, Poland. The author sees them as simultaneously Central European and (post)colonial spaces. Grounding her analysis in the comparative cultural studies developed by Steven T繹t繹sy de Zepetnek, particularly as related to the "in-between peripherality" of Central Europe between the West and the Soviet Union, she addresses what imagery the cities use to express their urbanities, memory and forgetting of pre-1989 pasts, and city images conveyed in post-1989 literature and film (as set in Berlin and Warsaw particularly).
