This story is about an unusual boy named Colt, who has a vivid imagination and a love of all things spooky! One Halloween, his Nana introduces him to two of her oldest friends, Countess Elvira Dracula (a Vegan vampire) and Minerva Moonbeam (a magical witch) and her talking cat Zeus, who share his love of Halloween. Countess Dracula invites Nana and Colt to a Halloween party at her castle the next day.

Nana and Colt are introduced to members of what Countess Dracula calls the Spooky Crew, who work together to guard against evil forces. First, they meet Lavaboy, a boy who can summon lava to erupt from wherever he is and can shoot out streams of lava from his eyes. Next, they meet Shelly, a beautiful mermaid and a Siren, who can compel people to do anything when she sings her siren song. In a large pool at the back of the castle, is the largest member of the Crew, Kris the Kraken. He is a powerful ally under the water. The most recent addition to the team is Zip, who can control lightning and storms. Minerva brings magic to the team, as well as a passion for making potions. Countess Dracula can hypnotise enemies with her eyes and can transform into a bat.

To Colt’s amazement, Minerva explains to Colt that they have a space in the crew for someone with a big imagination to help design booby traps, and train as an apprentice potion maker. Colt realises that they are looking for him to join them - can he rise to the challenge and become a fully-fledged member of the Crew?
