The study of climate change has highlighted the need to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, especially in industries such as cement and concrete, responsible for 7% of total human-generated emissions. The search for sustainable alternatives has led to the exploration of biomineralization and the use of non-pathogenic microorganisms as ＂bio-restoration agents＂ in concrete structures. This process, in which microorganisms synthesize minerals, is classified into induced, controlled and biologically influenced mineralization. A multidisciplinary approach is crucial to overcome the challenges and advance sustainable conservation.
