This book tells the story of a group of well-educated young Chinese people who, in the 1980s and 1990s, after China reopened its doors, embarked on a journey to the ’Koala Country’ for their studies. Through their diligence and intellect, they helped the university lab achieve world-class status in solar cell research and development. They also honed their professional skills and gained insights into Western corporate culture within the university-affiliated startup.

Despite the initial failure of these ventures, some of them returned to China in the early 2000s. They overcame the challenges of a nascent local venture capital landscape and a shortage of funds, and fortuitously capitalized on the favorable European solar energy policies, which ignited a massive industry boom. The stock market’s peak created billionaires, and this wealth effect inspired even more ambitious individuals to join the fray.

However, the journey wasn’t without its trials. Amidst market adjustments and supply chain restructuring, the Chinese solar energy industry endured a rigorous ’survival of the fittest’ period. Yet, it was through these hardships that it was reborn, ultimately asserting its dominance and leading the global industry.
