Mumbibooks

The life of little Mumbi, who is 13 years old, is all pain. One morning, she wakes up to brutal violence in her household: her father has been beating up her mother—again! This time, her mum is injured. Resolving to walk away from the abuse, Mumbi’s mum, Karen, asks her to pack her belongings, because they must leave for Manchester, where life holds greater promise. What awaits, though, is a life of even greater pain. They move into a shabby B&B hotel, whose compound is strewn with rubbish and where the furniture is dishevelled and the paint is peeling off the walls. While here, Mumbi must reckon with the weird hotel owner. But when her mother is involved in an accident and fractures her leg and neck, little Mumbi loses all hope and prefers death. Luckily, they have a friend—their good neighbour, Mrs. Jones.
