This collection of fourteen articles on the lithic history of the Maya civilization examines issues in contemporary anthropology and archeology surrounding the use of stone in this Central American empire. The work begins with three essays on comparative studies in Mayan stone tool use and follows with a selection of research on the usage of specific stone types including chert, obsidian, and jade. Individual chapters include black and white photographs, maps, archaeological site diagrams, and research data.
