This research paper first examines the various causes of flight for refugees of Togolese origin. It then describes their experiences with people smugglers during their journey. Finally, this study attempts to describe the challenges they faced in Germany. To this end, guided interviews were conducted with refugees of Togolese origin living in Baden-Württemberg. The material obtained was evaluated using "qualitative content analysis" according to Philipp Mayring, namely "deductive-inductive category formation" and "application." It was possible to work out that refugees of Togolese origin leave their home country due to the lack of "good governance". This is characterized by a lack of freedom of expression, persecution of people critical of the government, a lack of jobs, corruption and nepotism as well as mismanagement. It has also emerged that France’s foreign policy in Togo is partly contributing to the lack of good governance by interfering in Togo’s domestic politics.
