In the sunless seaside town of Timbre, 13-year-old Jonathan learns that his real father is a werewolf. Worse, he's a stranger. Now "Jonny" must figure out how to break an ancient family curse that should have killed his father on the day he was born. Along the way, he falls in love with a young witch who turns out to be the cousin of a cousin he didn't even know he had. Awkward! All three kids must work together to outsmart the powerful faerie king Morgan, the mysterious immortal monster called Nocmedden, a vampire assassin, and a secret society of wicked old wolves. Oh, and there's a kraken about to destroy the town. Will he be able to cope with all this and still have a great Fourth of July vacation?
