The first of three novels, "Awakening" follows the journey of Eliza Valery, a normal sixteen-year-old girl whose mother was murdered when she was fifteen. With her dad often travelling for work, Eliza is used to her own company - except when she is with her best friend, Callie. When new boy Drake Forest arrives at her school, her world is turned upside down. Drake has a strange effect on Eliza that she can't understand, but the more time she spends with him the more she feels there is something pulling her towards Drake. This pull leads her to the discovery that Drake, and his brother and friends who have come to town with him, is in fact an angel who has been sent to protect Eliza from the Shadow Queen, an angel gone bad with strong powers. The Shadow Queen seeks a powerful crystal that will give her unlimited powers and immortality, but Eliza is the one person who stands in her way without even knowing about it. Eliza undergoes a journey of love and also of identity, discovering things beyond her imagination about her herself, and she finally solves the mystery around her mother's sudden murder.
