This is not a history book. It is a collection of stories, based on research conducted at the National Library of Jamaica and the former Taino Museum at Whitemarl in the parish of St. Catherine, where a Taino village once existed, and my imagination The stories describe life in a Jamaican Taino village some 500 years ago, through the eyes of a ten year old Taino boy, living in the period of the Spanish invasion of Jamaica, which took place between 1492 and 1494.
We hope your children will enjoy reading this book. More importantly, we hope you will read them with your children, particularly if you have little ones younger than eight. We hope you will supplement The Adventures of Luka The Taino Boy with stories of your own childhood in Jamaica, as together we strive to imbue our children with a sense of being rooted in the rich and vibrant culture of a people who have overcome significant challenges and prevailed. Our heritage is worthy of immense pride and celebration.
