This study aims to investigate the actions of the school library at the Federal Institute of Bahia (IFBA) in terms of stimulating research and developing information competence. The research began with a central question: school research is an activity that should be guided by both teachers and librarians, who should introduce information competency practices into the daily life of school libraries, training students in the skills of locating information in various media and combining this information into a coherent text. The case study methodology was used. The data was obtained through direct observation in the libraries and semi-structured questionnaires. The results of the research show that librarians and teachers working together can offer learning opportunities for information competence in the process of school research in the Institute’s libraries, and the lack of this co-operation makes the library a passive place within the school context.
