This book is a compendium of collected writings, stories, songs and poems. Written in Galicia, Spain, it describes a myriad of experiences and encounters with people from Northern Spain and also Andalusia, North West England and family in Ireland.
The poems describe encounters with the rich natural environment here in Galicia, loyal hounds, psychedelic experiences, cockney rhyming humorous slang and Irish comedy.
The stories are a rich mix of different personal encounters with a wide eclectic mix of people from different walks of life such as alcoholics, drug addicts, entrepeneurs, refugees, and travellers who Brendan has met and become friends with along his twisting and varied path of life.
The songs penned by Brendan, who is a comprehensive singer song writer, explore multiple genres and moods. Singing always from the heart and soul, his lyrics are derived from a fluid lifestyle of rock and roll, travelling the world and towards the light. A staunch pacifist, anticapitalist and drawn to the mystic and magic that is life and love.
The songs provide sweet, soft tones for the joys and anguishes of heart. From lively blues, stories of love and melancholy or upbeat tracks for dancing and foot tapping, Shine continues the legacy and tradition of Irish poets and troubadours commenting on injustice.
Inspired by journeys to the Himalayas, Egypt, Israel, Barbados and Morocco, Brendan crosses boundaries with his music. He has resided in the UK, India, Italy, Basque Country & Galicia. With joint Irish and British nationality, Brendan surpasses base nationalistic leanings to be a world citizen without frontiers living as a free spirit outside the concrete jungle. Madchester, reggae, Indian Classical, Rhythm & blues, Irish folk, Rock n Roll have all influenced Shine to compose his sound.Empathy with Rastafarians, Buddhists, Hindus within the Shiva Matrix, Nomads, Arabic Persians, Asian cultures, immigrants, refugees, Celts & outcasts. Rock and Roll has saved his soul.
