The Husband is Mine is about spousal inheritance in the African culture.  Chelule is a wealthy man who marries Mize a semi-illiterate village girl.  But after they had  two children, Mize succumbs to a sudden illness.  Chelule's clan elders proposes Kadogo, Mize's younger sister to marry Chelule in order to fill the gap left by Mize according to the Konde culture.  But Chiku, Kadogo's  older sister who is married with 7 children launches a malicious plot.
