Reading comprehension is the basis of any efficient learning process and this in turn requires developed language skills, semantic and morpho-semantic comprehension that allow literal, inferential and critical levels of reading. Therefore, this research monograph seeks to promote the process of reading comprehension through narrative texts (the story and the fable) in the students of grade 5 E of the afternoon session of the María Inmaculada de San Marcos Educational Institution, Sucre, since, thanks to a diagnostic test, significant deficiencies in the comprehension of narrative texts were detected, this information was corroborated through an interview with the teacher. For this purpose, a strategy called "Reading and understanding is the passage to imagination" was designed, where, through the story and the fable, the students entered the world of imagination, taking advantage of the native stories of the region.
