Although the hospital is considered a business anywhere in the world, what interests the psychology professional is the object. And in this case, the object is the subject and their subjectivity, their pain, suffering, finitude, the process of terminality or healing, their fears and anxieties; which, on a scale, ends up affecting both the administrative side of a hospital - its costs; and the staff, because patients without psychological care tend to demand more from doctors, technicians, nurses, nutritionists, physiotherapists, etc. It also aims to break the paradigm about the difficulty of inserting psychologists into the hospital environment, to impose respectability on knowledge in the outdated hierarchical chain, to scrutinise the daily dealings with fragile patients and companions, to deal with the dynamic nature of psychology, among many other issues that are equally pertinent to the subject. The main aim of this project is to clarify and demonstrate the urgent and necessary role of psychologists in the hospital environment, and also to share the issues experienced within a referral hospital for the treatment of cancer in adults, where demands emerge uninterruptedly.
