This Open Access book examines the rise of political correctness as a cultural and normative force that has reshaped public discourse, legal norms, and democratic values. The author argues that what began as a movement for inclusion and respect has evolved into a system of informal censorship that increasingly constrains freedom of expression, artistic creativity, and academic inquiry.

Grounded in legal theory and enriched by interdisciplinary analysis, the book explores the shift from legal correctness to moral conformity. It traces how political correctness influences education, the media, science, and international relations. Through real-world examples and critical reflection, the author reveals how well-intentioned efforts to protect marginalized voices can inadvertently suppress dissent and intellectual diversity.

The book offers a principled call for ＂mutual tolerance＂ as a democratic ideal that safeguards inclusivity and the freedom to challenge prevailing norms. Spyridon Vlachopoulos is a Professor of Public Law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. A constitutional law scholar and practicing attorney, he has had a distinguished academic and professional career. He earned his Ph.D. from the Law School at the University of Munich, Germany.

He focuses his teaching and research on constitutional law, fundamental rights, and their national and international protection; political and constitutional history; and the practical applications of constitutional and administrative law. Since 1992, Vlachopoulos has practiced public law, representing cases before Greece’s highest administrative court, the Council of State. He has served on multiple legislative committees and currently holds positions on the Greek Data Protection Authority. He is a member of the teaching staff of the Greek School of Judges. He is also President of the Commission for the Assessment of the Quality of the Law-Making Process and, since 2023, a member of the University Senate.
