The novel tells of the undisclosed love between two kibbutz volunteers, Ella and Harold, on one side of the border, and the bonds of friendship between Ahmed and Ismail, two Palestinian Fedayeen, on the other, and is based on a real event in the 1950's.

As dawn breaks, the kibbutz is unaware that the Palestinian unit is trapped nearby. But when the minor incident that follows escalates into a violent border confrontation, it engulfs them all, testing the complex series of relationships on both sides to the limit, and changing their lives forever.
