現坊間已出版許多有關「房務管理」或「房務實務」等專業書籍，並廣為各大專院校所採用，然其內容大部份偏重於職務說明（Job Descripton）與工作流程細項（Job Breakdown）的描述，本書為AHLA（美國飯店業協會）認證之專業書籍「旅館房務部營運與管理」的中文版，其內容除包括職務說明和工作流程外，作者更以一個房務部門的「經營者」和「管理者」的角度窩明所應具備的專業知識和管理技能，非常具有其精闢和獨到的見解，可為各旅館房務部門主管實用的參考工具書外並適合各大專院校觀光、餐旅和休閒等相關科系房務課程教學使用之教科書。

房務部門（Housekeeping Department）通常是旅館飯店中編制最大、人員最多的部門，所負責的事情也是最多最複雜的，舉凡旅館的門面整體、公共區域清潔維護、客房清潔打掃、各個客用與員工用盥洗室的巡察與整潔、餐飲部門等營業單位每天打烊後細部清潔工作、後勤單位辦公室與倉儲區的清潔整理維護、甚至到住宿旅客的衣物送洗、臨時托嬰照料等等，都在房務部的工作範圍中。這一些平日看似不起眼的媽媽們，擔負著維護飯店裡外整潔清潔的重責大任，很難想像若沒有房務部門的這些每日辛勤付出勞力的員工，我們的飯店會是甚麼樣子?
以往國內飯店裡的房務部門主管多半是由基層員工一路爬升上來，基本功夫相當紮實，眼光亦犀利異常；業界有關房務部門專業管理的工具書一直稍嫌不足，所幸近年來國內旅館慢慢開始注重專業認證制度，各飯店旅館開始聘用所謂專業經理人來管理各個部門，以其專業及領導統馭能力來帶領飯店各個部門提供更專業的服務品質予賓客，創造高營收利潤，並且降低營運成本。本書為AHLA（美國飯店業協會）所認證之專業工具書，相信可提供各大國際級觀光旅館房務部門主管相當實用的參考資料。
